Me? Migrate?

This year's Chinese New Year's gathering was a rather strange one for me. I find myself being surrounded by relatives asking me the same question:

"Ehh... final year already arr? Don't wanna go overseas meh? Go overseas la... then stay there. Then can bring your parents and your brothers over. You're good at what you do right, sure got LOTS of opportunity for you there!"

Their reason for wanting me to migrate overseas?

"Haiya, you see the country so luan, it will get difficult for you later wan laa... Now everything also give Malay people. Next time you sure no opportunity already. Stay here sure die. Go over better; just like how ma ma and ye ye came over from China last time. "

*sigh*

What do you say to sentiments like that? They are sincerely advising you because they are thinking of your welfare. Rebuking them will not only be a show of disrespect towards elders, they might also view you as a rebellious young thing who doesn't know what's good for him. In fact, my cousin is believing in this so much that he is applying for his PR as I'm typing this.

My view? Yes! Our country is screwed up. Yes! Our politicians deserve to burn in hell for what they're doing to the country. But is that a good enough reason for me to join the exodus?

I don't think so.

I love my country. Not because of the nasi lemak, not because of the char koey teow, not because of satay kambing; but of national pride. Malaysia is where I'm borned and here is where I belong. When people ask me where I'm from, I'd like to be able to hold my head up high and tell them "I'm Malaysian. And no, we don't live on trees, oh, yes, the government sux big time but we're fixing it. XD"

You know how they say that Chinese people outside China don't really belong anywhere? Hell, if I leave, then I'll really belong to nowhere. I dahlah already a little bothered that I cannot go back to China and be recognised as one of their own.

*sighhhh*

But what I'm afraid is that if the situation in the country DOES become alarmingly dangerous, then I might regret not bringing my family there for safety. I don't mind fighting for my country but I don't want my family to be harmed in the crossfire. The safety of my family comes before any political crap.

Why is our country so screwed up? Why are people so greedy? Why do they wanna stay in power even though they know their screwing around? Do they have no conscience? LOVE YOUR COUNTRY AND WORK PROPERLY LA DAMN IT!!

If anyone should leave, our corrupt politicians should. PERIOD!
